Sometimes Tonka affixed their logo decal to private label trucks. Sometimes they didn't. In this case Tonka did. It's rare to see a shipping carton for any private label truck. However, the one for the Marshall Field & Company metro is featured above. The numbers 81-23-8 are believed to be the part number Tonka assigned to this metro. The brown sealing tape the part number is stamped on hides the part number for the metro the carton was designed to hold and in 1954, the only metro in Tonka's line up was the Parcel Delivery, model #750-4.

Value: A Marshall Field & Company metro in original, unretouched good plus condition, no obvious dings or dents, numerous paint scrapes, decals good, missing one headlight, sold on eBay for $368 USD late March 2008.
